What Happens When Your Email Fills Up?
When an email account reaches its storage limit, it stops receiving new messages. Senders will receive a "mailbox full" error. It's important to keep accounts with available space.
View an Account's Current Space Usage
- Log in to cPanel
- Go to Email → Email Accounts
- You will see each account with its current usage and limit. E.g.:
250 MB / 1 GB
Increase an Account's Quota
- In Email Accounts, click "Manage" next to the account
- Find the "Mailbox Quota" section
- Change the value in MB (1024 MB = 1 GB)
- Click "Update Email"
⚠️ Plan Limit: The total space of all your email accounts is limited by the disk space of your hosting plan. You cannot allocate more space than you have available in total.
Free Up Space Without Increasing Quota
- Empty trash and spam: In your email client or webmail, regularly empty these folders
- Delete emails with large attachments: Sort by size and delete the heaviest ones
- Archive old emails: Download them to your computer with an IMAP client and delete them from the server
???? Best Practice: Check your email space every 3 months. Always maintain at least 20% free space to avoid interrupting message reception.
