Change PHP Version in cPanel

Why Change the PHP Version?

Some WordPress plugins or themes require a minimum PHP version. Also, newer PHP versions are faster and more secure. PlatiniumHost supports PHP 7.4, 8.0, 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3.

How to Change the PHP Version

  1. Log in to cPanel
  2. Find the "Software" section
  3. Click on "Select PHP Version"
  4. In the dropdown menu, select the version you need
  5. Click on "Set as current"
✅ The change is immediate. You don't need to restart anything.

Which Version Should I Use for WordPress?

  • PHP 8.2 or 8.3 → Recommended for modern WordPress (faster and more secure)
  • PHP 8.1 → Good option if a plugin is not compatible with 8.2
  • PHP 7.4 → Only if you have a very old plugin or theme that does not work with PHP 8
⚠️ Before changing: If you have a production site, test first in a development environment or activate maintenance mode in WordPress. A PHP version change sometimes causes incompatibilities with old plugins.
